Overview

Our bass instructors teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical styles on both electric and acoustic basses. Beginners work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Each lesson will challenge you with a new technique or music theory, and ends with something fun – such as your favorite riff or song. We employ a variety of bass method books based on student needs and preferences. The classrooms are equipped with computers and speakers, so students can easily learn and play along to their favorite songs with their instructors.

    Why take electric bass lessons?

The bass is easy to pick up as a beginner musician, playing many songs with single notes. There is much to learn with the bass, so you will never get bored. If you are looking to join a band, you will be more in demand since there are far fewer bass players than guitar players. Plus, being skilled at the bass means you are more skilled as a composer, arranger, and overall musician. Get your groove on with one of our fun instructors!

What’s the #1 reason to study the electric bass at Westminster Arts Academy?

Our bass instructors are warm and friendly and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and your favorite type of music. Whether you are playing in local bands, a seven-year-old taking their first lesson, or a fifty-year-old returning to the bass after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

What styles of electric bass do you teach?

We teach all styles, from rock, pop, jazz, and blues to metal, country, and classical bass – on electric and acoustic basses.

How qualified are Westminster Arts Academys electric bass instructors?

We carefully select instructors that are professionals in the music industry and/or have a college degree in music. All instructors work great with all ages and genuinely love teaching just as much as they love music. Upon registration, let us know your expectations, and we will set you up with the right instructor that works for you or your child. See our Instructors page for more information on each instructor.

Do I need to purchase a bass to learn the instrument?

Westminster Arts Academy offers acoustic and electric basses for student lessons (for your convenience, students can use one of ours at their first lesson). But to practice at home, you will need a bass.

              Are there electric bass recitals?

Absolutely! Every Summer and Winter, students have the opportunity to perform in an actual theater and be treated like a rockstar! Unlike most of our competitors, we do not charge students a fee to perform. All family and friends are welcome to attend. In addition to the on-stage recitals, we also provide virtual concerts and performances around the community. See our performance page for more information.
